5313: 95/100
5389: 95/100
As I reflect on my 3rd semester of the ADL Program, I can't help but be thankful. I'm thankful for being given the opportunity to learn. I've learned from my facilitators, my fellow classmates, my core collaboration group, and myself. Being able to collaborate with my colleagues, Erika Peña and Veronica Balli, along with my GroupMe group of 23 fellow classmates, has made all the difference in believing I can do this. This journey hasn't been easy, but it's easier with support. I have learned through frustration, mistakes, and setbacks, but the bottom line is that I'm always learning.
The two courses I learned from this semester were 5313 (CSLE) and 5389 (Effective PL), which both had a lot of content, so it wasn't easy to complete everything in 7 weeks, but we did it!
In EDLD 5313, we developed a clear understanding of how to create significant learning environments (CSLE). The assignments in this course helped me shift to a more holistic view of learning, which is what is needed to bring about change in a learning environment. We started by reading and exploring The New Culture of Learning, which speaks about an environment that requires play, imagination, questioning, inquiry, and experimentation. This lead me to think about what my beliefs about learning are and how I can best cultivate an environment that develops motivated, engaged, self-directed, lifelong learners. My learning philosophy clarifies the importance of creating a significant learning environment in order for students to be successful. Our next task was to plan a lesson by using Fink's 3-column table, which began by having our end goal in mind. We created our Big Hairy Audacious Goal (BHAG) and looked at overall outcomes, learning assessments, and activities. Then we
dug down to a deeper level to build out specific outcomes in the development of our UbD template. Finally, I re-evaluated the Growth Mindset Plan we created in a previous course by thinking about how my growth mindset has progressed and how I'm going to harness the power of a growth mindset in creating a significant learning environment for my learners and for my colleagues as they attend our Blended Learning Professional Learning Sessions next school year.
EDLD 5389, Developing Effective Professional Learning, has been the most enjoyable course for me, mainly because I LOVED creating the entire PL outline that is going to best support our teachers during the implementation of our innovation plan. There were 3 steps in creating our Professional Learning Plan. Our 1st step was to promote a Go & Show approach to professional learning. Our 2nd step was to create an outline that provides an overview of the PL sessions we created. Our 3rd step was to fully prepare for our 1st PL session. All we had to do was create something WE wanted to attend.
My core collaboration group was once again, my saving grace. We all took on leadership roles at different stages of this semester. Since we physically work in the same school, collaboration was easy. We were able to work together almost daily through in-person meetings, Microsoft Teams, or texts. I couldn't have survived this semester without them.
I have learned so much in the past seven weeks. I reflected on the assignments we had this semester and last, listened to feedback I received and made all necessary and suggested revisions. I met my deadlines by turning in all of my assignments by the due dates. I participated in all the discussions and gave feedback on several posts with my thoughts and research. I participated in our weekly live Zoom meeting when I was able to and watched the recording for both classes when I couldn't attend. I read all of the required books and watched the videos in our course modules, which correlated very well with our assignments and discussion posts.
Something I want to improve upon is keeping up with the discussions and required readings so that I don't fall behind and create more stress for myself. In order to mentally prepare for next semester, I will begin reading the required text over the next 3 weeks, studying the 3 column tables on Dr. Harapnuik's website, and looking through the assignment examples.
Learning is a gift I give myself every day and it all began with the ADL Program. I'm looking forward to what the Summer semester has to offer.
